Welcome to the new look Ced Wise AB Services Website!

Last month we welcomed Ashley back from maternity leave, little Cody is six months old, where did the time go!

On Wednesday, I attended another of the half- yearly meetings of the Ruminant Genetics Trade Advisory Group (RGTAG) in Canberra. This group gives industry opportunity to discuss things like, the compliance issues and costs, as well as possible changes to those protocols that we feel are currently impacting on the export of genetic (embryo and semen) material with the heads of the relevant sections within the Department of Agriculture (DoA).

As the only veterinarian from northern Australia present, I was particularly interested in the seeking further clarification of protocol issues that pertain to bovine semen and embryos to the Republic of South Africa and South America. I also joined other industry members in asking that the Australian Government give high priority to developing a protocol to allow for the importation of frozen IVF embryos. To that end, I am now on a sub-committee of six to develop such a protocol to be submitted to the DoA.

It was a very useful and informative meeting which I am sure will produce positive changes and allow greater access for our genetic material to foreign countries.

It was great to see Melinda Hashimoto, advisor to the Hon Barnaby Joyce MP, present for the entire meeting. I know she follows the progress of our industry intensely and her presence yesterday confirms that the Government sees our small but growing genetic export industry as having an important and viable future.

We are also busy getting ready for Beef Australia 2015, which is now only days away! We will be represented for the entire week, sharing a site with Rocky Repro. If you are there, please pop past to say hello – Stand 37P in the Durack Pavilion.
